Detail description
Duroc pork product authentication using genetic markers to combat market mislabeling. The GENDUROC project (2020–2022) validated the MC1R/KIT1 polymorphic system, identified 4,074 SNPs, and developed a 24-SNP panel to distinguish 100% Duroc from non-Duroc products with >90% accuracy. However, differentiation of Duroc 50% products from non-Duroc parents remained challenging, with ~70% accuracy due to limited reference lines. The study confirmed that many labeled Duroc products are likely hybrids, highlighting the need for expanded SNP panels and regulatory standards. Genetic testing proved effective across fresh, cured, and cooked products. Findings were shared via INNOVACC publications, presentations, and a project webpage.
