Development of an autonomous feeding system for Celtic trunk pigs in Atlantic forests
Autonomous digital feeding and monitoring system for Celtic trunk pigs in Atlantic deciduous forests
or
Detail description
Land abandonment in Galicia and Asturias has increased unmanaged deciduous forests. The FOREST4EU project developed an autonomous feeding system for Celtic trunk pigs (Porco Celta, Gochu Asturcelta) in these forests, improving forest sustainability, reducing fire risk, and supporting rural development. The system was tested in two 11- and 13-month cycles with 55 pigs each, showing cost reduction, better management, high-quality meat, and breed preservation.
