Natural regeneration of cork and holm oaks in Alentejo agro-forestry systems

Natural regeneration of cork and holm oaks in Alentejo's agro-forestry systems is critical for ecological and economic sustainability. This project investigates seed-based and stump sprouting regeneration, assessing factors like soil type, shrub competition, and microclimate. Through 14 monitored demonstration sites, it evaluates juvenile tree density, growth, and survival. Findings aim to improve management practices, reduce reliance on costly artificial planting, and support climate-resilient forest restoration in Mediterranean ecosystems.
