Prevention of Clostridial Diseases in Sheep Through Nutrition and Vaccination
Prevention through nutrition and targeted vaccination in pregnant ewes and lambs
or
Detail description
Prevents fatal clostridial diseases in sheep through targeted feeding and vaccination. Feeding fresh hay ad libitum reduces high-protein grass intake, limiting Clostridium proliferation. Vaccination of pregnant ewes transfers passive immunity to lambs via colostrum. Inactivated multivalent vaccines (2-, 4-, 7-, or 8-way) given in a two-dose schedule with a one-month interval and a booster one month before lambing ensure protection. Lambs for breeding should also be vaccinated. These practices reduce newborn loss, adult mortality, and antimicrobial use. Applicable across health, nutrition, and management.
