Risk Analysis for Farm Biosecurity: Pathogen Introduction via Animal Purchases and Visits
Risk assessment model for farm biosecurity using survey-based pathogen introduction probabilities
or
Detail description
A risk analysis model assesses biosecurity threats on farms, focusing on disease introduction via animal purchases and farm visits. Using survey data on practices and movements, it calculates disease risk probabilities—41% for IBR, 29% for BVD, and <1% for TB—on a cattle farm that recently acquired two bulls. The model evaluates interventions like visitor boot provision, equipment restriction, vehicle access control, and pre-transport testing, showing potential risk reductions of up to 100%. Results are visualized to aid farmers and veterinarians in improving biosecurity. A short Menti survey (code: 5302 3148) supports interpretation. Funded by the EU’s BIOSECURE Horizon 2020 project and COST Action BETTER.
