Precision Livestock Farming technologies for monitoring barn micro-climate conditions.

Detail description

The BroilerNet project involves a bottom-up approach to identify challenges and innovation needs for broiler farmers in Europe, and to collect promising and already successfully implemented Good Practices to meet the challenges in question. The top Good Practices selected by experts within the three thematic areas (animal health management, animal welfare, and sustainability) have been summarized in factsheets. New monitoring technologies have been developed which allow remote surveillance of various production parameters on the farm. These parameters include, for instance, water consumption, CO2, temperature, and ammonia concentrations. These systems can be used as a rapid warning system at the farm level for animal welfare. It is of critical importance that these systems provide the ability to take immediate corrective action in order to minimize the exposure of broilers to uncomfortable situations and stress.
