Foot Health Program for Broiler Welfare

Foot Health Program reduces welfare issues through standardized scoring and targeted interventions

or

Detail description

Footpad lesions are a key indicator of broiler welfare, caused by poor barn climate, feed issues, or health problems. Sweden's mandatory Foot Health Program, launched in 1994 by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, requires standardized foot scoring at slaughter. Flocks exceeding threshold scores trigger interventions, including reduced stocking density and consultant advice. This approach has successfully reduced footpad lesions nationwide, improving welfare, barn conditions, and meat quality.
