Prototype slurry spreader with automatic rate control for orchards
Trailing hose slurry spreader for orchard band application with emission reduction and precision rate control
or
Detail description
A prototype slurry spreader designed for band application in orchards features a 5 m³ tank, trailing hoses to reduce ammonia emissions, and an automatic rate controller that adjusts pump speed based on forward speed. It uses low-pressure, wide-section tyres to minimise soil compaction and sward damage. The system applies nitrogen in two 1.0 m bands per side, 0.5 m from tree rows, with real-time adjustments for varying slurry nitrogen content and speed changes (3–9 km h⁻¹). Testing showed consistent application and a 63% reduction in ammonia emissions compared to conventional broadcast methods.
