BEECAM – Smart Pest and Pollinator Monitoring

Monitors pests and pollinators in vegetable crops with autonomous, long-range sensors for sustainable farming

or

Detail description

BEECAM is an autonomous, long-range pest monitoring system developed by CTIF within the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme (grant No. 862563). It supports sustainable agriculture by integrating biocontrol strategies using natural enemies in vegetable crops like tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce. The system monitors pollinator colonies, tracks insect activity and hive dynamics, and provides real-time alerts when pest thresholds are exceeded. With advanced data processing and energy efficiency, BEECAM enables continuous monitoring, sprayer performance analysis (e.g., droplet size, leaf coverage), and automated reporting—supporting compliance with pesticide reduction regulations. Designed for large-scale deployment in challenging environments, it enhances integrated pest management (IPM) and knowledge sharing across European regions. The project, authored by Eriselda Canaj (AREFLH, France), concluded in 2023 and is available in English and French under a CC-BY license.
