Pallet-to-energy system for industrial heat

Converts single-use pallets into heat energy for industrial processes using a containerised system with chipper, silo, and boiler

or

Detail description

The BRANCHES project developed a mobile, containerised system that converts single-use pallets into heat energy using a chipper, silo, and boiler. Designed for continuous operation, the 100-kW system processes 13 pallets to replace ~100 litres of diesel, reducing energy costs, storage needs, and emissions. It produces ~250,000 kWh of heat annually—equivalent to 25,000 litres of diesel, saving ~€20,000 yearly. With a projected payback of five years, it supports rural bioeconomy, circular economy, and climate action. The system enables cost savings from avoided disposal fees and potential carbon credit revenue.
