Enhancing biosecurity by dedicating small equipment by zone and by poultry house
The BroilerNet project involves a bottom-up approach to identify challenges and innovation needs for broiler farmers in Europe, and to collect promising and already successfully implemented Good Practices to meet the challenges in questions. The top Good Practices selected by experts within the three thematic areas (animal health management, animal welfare and sustainability) have been summarized in factsheets. Improving biosecurity in farming is essential for preventing and controlling the spread of pathogens, which can cause significant economic losses and threaten the health of birds. Broiler chickens are mainly farmed at high density in closed environments, increasing the risk of rapid pathogen transmission if introduced. Pathogens can enter a poultry house and spread from one house to another through various vectors such as people, farm equipment, vehicles and/or other animals. In response to this significant challenge, effective biosecurity measures are essential to implement to ensure the protection of poultry farms. To enhance biosecurity on his broiler farm, a French farmer, along with other farmers, decided to allocate specific equipment and small materials by zone and by poultry house.
