Cabbage root fly life cycle and biotypes in UK agriculture

Early and late emerging biotypes of cabbage root fly with varying generation timing and diapause strategies

or

Detail description

Cabbage root fly (Delia radicum) infests brassica roots, with larvae feeding on roots after hatching from eggs laid near plant bases. Adults emerge in spring, with multiple generations per year depending on climate. Some regions have two biotypes: early and late emerging, with the latter having extended pupal diapause. Pupae may also aestivate in hot conditions. The model forecasts risk using hourly soil and air temperatures at 6 cm depth, requiring historic data for accurate predictions.
