Monitoring Poultry Red Mite on Commercial Farms
Monitoring poultry red mites with tube traps for early infestation detection
or
Detail description
Regular monitoring of poultry red mites on commercial farms using qualitative traps, such as the tube trap method, enables early detection and rapid intervention. The tube trap, made of a 10 cm PVC tube (18–20 mm diameter) with a 12 cm wooden stick (14–15 mm diameter) and a central screw or nail, is placed under perches. Use 15–20 traps per house, distributed across passageways and levels, avoiding air inlets. Inspect weekly by removing and cleaning the stick to assess mite presence. This method supports effective, practical mite control.
