The CASDAR project (2010–2013) led by the GRAB evaluated strategies to reduce chemical and mechanical inputs in olive production across French orchards. Research focused on alternative plant protection products (e.g., Beauveria bassiana, kaolinite, pyrethrum, Neem-Azal), pruning techniques to limit pests, natural control agents against the olive fly, and on-site rearing of beneficial insects. Additionally, trials assessed the effects of permanent grass cover on mechanization reduction, and optimized irrigation and fertilization regimes starting in the nursery and at planting. Techno-economic comparisons between organic and integrated fruit production assessed real costs, while pilot orchards demonstrated low-input routes for local growers.
