Detaillierte Beschreibung

This practice abstract presents a silvopastoral agroforestry system that integrates trees and pasture-based livestock production to improve environmental, economic and animal welfare outcomes.

At the Gladbacherhof experimental farm, more than 600 trees were planted within pasture areas to provide shade for dairy cows, reduce soil erosion and improve nutrient cycling. The system also contributes to carbon sequestration both above and below ground, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on external inputs.

Additional benefits include diversified farm income through fruit and timber production, improved climate resilience and enhanced ecosystem services. The experience highlights the importance of knowledge sharing and policy support to facilitate wider adoption of agroforestry systems.
