This project develops plant charcoal from biogas digestate as a sustainable stall bedding alternative, replacing up to 5% of straw in dairy cattle operations. The method improves stall hygiene, reduces methane and ammonia emissions, and enhances soil fertility when applied as enriched manure. Field trials in Brandenburg show improved animal welfare, extended cleaning intervals, and better moisture control. The approach supports sustainable farming by recycling organic waste and boosting productivity on nutrient-poor soils.
