The objective of the project is to improve the productive and meat yields of pure Iberian pig minority varieties (some of them in danger of extinction) present in the Extremadura region to enhance their use in extensive and intensive systems. Crosses will be designed to reach new genetic adapted to farmers and industrialists. At the environmental level, the project pursues a greater and better conservation of the dehesa. There are 4 varieties of important genetic patrimony: Entrepelado and Retinto (of promotion) and Negro lampiño and Torbiscal (of special protection). The Retinto variety has imposed itself on the others, relegating the rest to a real situation of danger of extinction.
