Modelling cost-effectiveness of mitigation solution in the Dutch Dairy sector
Bio-economic modelling helps identify the most cost-effective greenhouse gas mitigation strategies for different dairy farm types in the Dutch dairy sector.
Detalizēts apraksts
This practice abstract presents the use of bio-economic modelling to assess the cost-effectiveness of greenhouse gas mitigation solutions in the Dutch dairy sector.
Six dairy farm archetypes were identified to represent different farm structures, production intensities, greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation potentials. The FarmDyn model was used to simulate farm decisions and assess the effects of mitigation measures on farm management, costs and emissions.
Stand-alone measures such as adding Bovaer (3-NOP) to rations and anaerobic mono-digestion with nitrogen stripping showed the highest emission reduction potential, between 10% and 18% depending on farm type. When measures were combined into farm-specific packages, mitigation potential and abatement costs varied substantially between farm archetypes, highlighting the need for tailored strategies rather than one-size-fits-all solutions.
