Diagnosis of Challenges and Design of Crop-Livestock Integrated Systems in the Aveyron Watershed

This study presents a participatory process involving local stakeholders in the Aveyron watershed to diagnose challenges and design integrated crop-livestock systems. Two scenarios—territorial integration and specialization trend—are compared using a multicriteria assessment to support sustainable and autonomous agricultural development.

Descripción detallada

This article details a participatory methodology implemented in the Aveyron river watershed to develop integrated crop-livestock systems. Three workshops with farmers, technical advisors, natural resource managers, and sector representatives produced a diagnostic of integration challenges and generated targeted options for change. These options were organized into a “territorial integration” scenario and contrasted with a “specialization trend” scenario via a qualitative multicriteria assessment grid. The work aims to enhance the autonomy of production systems, valorize local biophysical and social resources, and initiate an agroecological transition. Initial results and future research perspectives on diverse integration pathways at the territorial level are presented.
