Carbon sequestration in Mediterranean agricultural soils and permanent plant structures is enhanced through targeted management strategies. This project develops practical, objective methods to quantify and certify organic carbon, supporting farmers in adopting sustainable practices. It focuses on key crops—wheat, rice, vine, olive, citrus, and almond—offering actionable agronomic recommendations. The initiative, led by UNE and funded by the Rural Development Program, advances climate change mitigation, soil conservation, and agricultural productivity. The project aligns with Spain’s research goals for sustainable agriculture and supports market differentiation through certification.
