Pasture manager - EIP project video

Pasture is a cost-effective source of feed for dairy cows and is also perceived by consumers as animal-friendly. This is reflected in the increasing demand for pasture-based dairy products. Ireland is regarded as a model for successful pasture management. The EIP project adapted a tool, the Rising Plate Meter, which uses lasers and GPS to measure grass growth. This enables farmers to better determine the optimal grazing times and obtain the highest forage yield from their land. This saves time and money and also benefits animal health through grazing.
