PRO-WILD
Protect and promote Crop Wild Relatives
About project
Crop wild relatives (CWR) are wild plant species genetically related to cultivated crops. Their untapped diversity can enhance resilience to biotic and abiotic stress and the nutritional quality of modern crops. PRO-WILD aims to protect and conserve CWR of wheat, sugar beet, and oilseed rape, both in their natural habitats and in genebanks. The project will also catalog beneficial traits, making them accessible to breeders and researchers. PRO-WILD brings together 19 partners from 11 countries, combining expertise in various fields, and is co-funded by the European Union, UK Research and Innovation and the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation.
