Intercropping wheat with lentils in South-West France reduces lodging, suppresses weeds, and improves harvest efficiency and yield stability. The practice enhances wheat protein content and mitigates bruchid beetle infestations. Recommended sowing rates are 300 g/m² for lentils and 50 plants/m² for wheat, with no fertilisation and use of a compatible, matching-maturity wheat cultivar. Trials on three farms under the ReMIX project, supported by INRAE, TERRENA, and Organicseurope, showed significant reductions in lodging and weeds, supporting sustainable lentil production in Western France.
