Een sloot vol leven door ecologisch slootschonen

Ecological ditch maintenance restores habitat for fish, birds, amphibians, and plants in a thriving, biodiverse ecosystem.

Detail description

A ditch teeming with life through ecological maintenance. Increasing attention on biodiversity in the landscape highlights the role of waterways as vital habitats. By improving water quality and adopting sustainable practices—such as leaving 25% unmanaged, preserving soil, and maintaining vegetation—ditches become thriving ecosystems. Home to frogs, birds, fish, insects, and plants like water lilies and great marsh marigold, these waterways support rich biodiversity. Ecological ditch maintenance enhances habitat value, supports species like eels, snipes, and dragonflies, and promotes long-term ecological resilience. Part of the LivingLab Flevoland initiative since 2016, this approach fosters collaboration among farmers, water boards, and communities to restore living waterways.
