A mixed farming model: Video

Exploring integrated farming: a model of sustainability and diversity

Detail description

Herdade do Monte Branco da Loira, part of Casa Agrícola Manuel Gil Ferreira, spans 680 hectares featuring diverse production and forests. The farm has cork oak forests on one side and holm oak and pine trees on the other, alongside 250 hectares of arable land, including 60 hectares of irrigated alfalfa.

The alfalfa supports 1,400 sheep, with a portion sold and lower-quality cuttings used for self-consumption.

Technology, such as the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), assists in crop management.

Pigs are also integrated to consume acorns, creating a diversified and balanced farm system.
