A family farm: Video

A journey through sustainable agriculture and family heritage

Detail description

Sociedade Agrícola Mendes Jorge is a family-run farm of nearly 800 hectares focusing on beef cattle production, housing around 150 animals, and breeding Lusitano horses.

Located in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo and near Vilar Formoso, the farm features 600 hectares for grazing and 200 hectares of permanent crops.

Recently, they have reduced stocking rates to foster sustainable agro-silvopastoral development, promoting younger oaks for improved forage and soil health.

This practice enhances pasture quality and minimizes soil compaction, yielding positive economic and environmental outcomes.
