Sediment Barriers for Post-Fire Erosion and Flood Control in Greece

Sediment control and flood protection measures implemented post-wildfire in Agios Stefanos, Greece, to stabilize slopes and protect water catchment

or

Detail description

Post-wildfire sediment retention and flood protection barriers constructed in Agios Stefanos, Attica, Greece, following the August 2009 wildfire. Four barriers were installed on watercourses feeding the Maratoni reservoir to stabilise slopes, reduce sediment transport, protect water quality, and mitigate flood risks. The intervention supported ecological recovery, groundwater recharge, and long-term resilience in the 2.33 km² burned area.
