Innovative Wood Chip Supply Silo for Biomass Logistics
Automated biomass logistics platform optimises wood chip distribution and reduces CO2 emissions by over 110%
or
Detail description
The SISE platform is an automated wood chip distribution system in Catalonia, Spain, designed to optimise biomass logistics and reduce CO2 emissions by over 110%. With a 190m³ storage capacity, it receives chips from a central plant via 90m³ trucks and redistributes them using smaller, authorised local vehicles (30–40m³). Operating without on-site staff, the system uses automated monitoring to predict demand and ensure consistent supply. The project, developed by BOSCAT under the FOREST4EU initiative, has completed testing with no mechanical issues, verified chip quality, and positive feedback from customers and logistics operators. A lifecycle analysis confirms significant emission reductions—94.67 kg CO2 per 7-tonne load over 120 km—compared to traditional methods.
