FarmPEAT Project: Bogs, Payments, and Youth Engagement

Supporting sustainable farming and bog conservation through results-based payments and youth engagement in Ireland

or

Detail description

The FarmPEAT Project, an EU-funded initiative under the Rural Development Programme 2014–2022, supports sustainable farming on raised bogs in Ireland. In 2021, it distributed €75,948 in results-based payments to 36 pilot farmers for ecosystem services like carbon sequestration and biodiversity. The 'Love Your Wellies' art competition engaged over 576,000 participants, with winning entries such as *The Boglands* and *Bog Over Time* combining art and education. The project expanded to 50 farmers in 2022, with a second scoring season and ongoing soil surveys. A ScoreCard workshop supported farmer assessment. Funded by the EU and supported by EIP, the initiative promotes peatland conservation and youth engagement in environmental stewardship.
