Ammonia emissions to nitrogen recovery in pig farming
Reducing ammonia and greenhouse gas emissions in pig farming through closed-loop nitrogen recovery
or
Detail description
Gas Loop's ammonia recovery system reduces indoor ammonia by 62% and emissions by 54% in pigsties, improving animal welfare and productivity. The closed-loop system captures nitrogen as ammonium sulphate, avoiding 1.94 kg NH3 per animal annually and reducing CO2eq emissions by 66 tons. Installed in a 1,440-capacity barn, it recovers 16.8 tons of nitrogen yearly, with 13.5% of total costs for preparatory works. Funded by the EU and Emilia-Romagna, the project enhances sustainability and air quality.
