Natural alternative to chemical weed killers and fossil-based mulch films
Natural straw pellet mulch for sustainable weed control in home gardens
or
Detail description
Coopid promotes straw pellets as a sustainable alternative to chemical weed killers and fossil-based mulch films in home gardening. Developed by Landwirtschaftskammer Steiermark in Austria, the pellets absorb water, expand into a dense ground cover that blocks sunlight, suppresses weeds, and reduces soil evaporation. A 1 cm layer forms a 3–4 cm mulch layer that improves soil quality as it decomposes. Funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, the project supports eco-friendly gardening practices.
