Applicability of Models and Tools in Environmental Analysis
Understanding the strengths, limitations and applicability of environmental models is essential for robust greenhouse gas and soil carbon assessments.
Λεπτομερής περιγραφή
This practice abstract explores the applicability of models and tools used to assess greenhouse gas emissions and soil organic carbon in agricultural systems.
Results from the ClieNFarms project show that model performance depends strongly on data quality, data availability and the specific assessment objective. No single model is suitable for all situations, and different approaches, ranging from IPCC Tier 1 and Tier 2 methods to more advanced Tier 3 models, offer different levels of complexity and accuracy.
The abstract highlights the limitations of current tools for applications such as carbon credit schemes and subsidy allocation, while emphasising their usefulness for identifying trends, supporting farm management decisions and contributing to Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems.
