Multifunctionele houtwallen bieden allerlei ecosysteemdiensten die we graag terugzien in het agrarische landschap, waaronder biodiversiteit. De streekgebonden biodiversiteit wordt ondersteund door het bieden van voedsel, nestgelegenheid en beschutting voor insecten, vogels en zoogdieren. Ook het bodemleven profiteert van bomen en struiken. Houtwallen zijn verder verbindende corridors die verplaatsing van flora en fauna door het landschap mogelijk maken.
